Map Interface & Field Drawing
The interactive map is the heart of GroundedAg. Use it to visualize your fields, draw boundaries, and mark observation locations.
Accessing the Map
On Mobile:
- Tap the Map or Home tab at the bottom
- Your field will be displayed with current scouting reports
On Web:
- Click Map or Home in the sidebar
- Use the full-screen map interface
Map Controls
Navigation:
- Zoom In/Out - Use pinch gesture (mobile) or scroll wheel (web)
- Pan - Drag to move around the map
- Recenter - Tap the location button to center on your current position (mobile)
Layers & Display:
- Toggle Fields - Show/hide field boundaries
- Toggle Reports - Show/hide scouting report pins
- Change Basemap - Switch between satellite, terrain, or street view
Drawing Field Boundaries
Method 1: Draw on Map
- Tap "Draw Field" or "New Field" button
- Tap points on the map to create a polygon
- Tap the first point again to close the shape
- Review the boundary and "Save Field"
Method 2: Upload Shapefile
- Go to Field Management
- Select "Import Field" or "Upload Shapefile"
- Choose a .shp file from your device
- Confirm the field boundary
- Add field name, crop type, and other details
- Save
Method 3: Edit Existing Field
- Tap on a field boundary on the map
- Select "Edit"
- Drag points to reposition boundary, or add/remove points
- Tap "Save" when complete
Marking Observations on the Map
When creating a scouting report:
- Tap or click on the map where you found an observation
- A marker pin appears at that location
- Fill in the observation details (type, count, severity, etc.)
- Add photos and notes
- Save the observation
- Repeat for additional locations
Pin Management:
- Tap a pin to view/edit its observation
- Long-press a pin to delete it
- Drag a pin to reposition it (mobile only)
Map-Based Features
Distance Measurement
- Some areas allow you to measure distances between points
- Useful for estimating affected field areas
GPS Accuracy
- The app shows GPS accuracy radius (mobile only)
- Better accuracy with clearer skies and fewer obstructions
- Enable device location services for best results
Offline Mapping (Mobile)
- Download maps for offline use in areas with poor connectivity
